Course description

Explore how to integrate the total compensation package — including remuneration, benefits and pension — with the organization's overall goals. Gain a broad understanding of the employment environment and the statutory framework within which the organization operates.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Explain the role of total rewards strategy and its link to desired employee behaviours and organizational goals and objectives;
  • Describe the various motivational theories that relate to pay;
  • Discuss how wages are established and how compensation programs are structured;
  • Provide an overview of the key provincial and federal legislation affecting compensation;
  • Describe what an incentive plan is, the various forms it takes and what is included in successful individual and group incentive programs;
  • Discuss the key components of a successful benefits program and how benefit programs contribute to the desired outcomes of the organization;

•   This is an online, asynchronous course; it is not an independent study course. There are set due dates for graded and non-graded assessments and students are required to actively participate throughout the course via discussion and other activities.
