Course description

Enhance contraceptive knowledge and counseling skills with a focus on long acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs). Attend the practical workshops to learn or improve techniques in the insertion, removal, and troubleshooting of intrauterine devices and etonogestrel subdermal implants.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to  

  • describe the contraceptive landscape and unmet needs for contraception in Alberta and in Canada.
  • compare the benefits and risks of the etonogestrel subdermal implant and intrauterine contraception.
  • gain expertise in inserting, localizing, and removing the etonogestrel subdermal implants.
  • gain expertise in inserting IUDs and troubleshooting difficult insertions.
