Course description

Orff Prep offers an active, hands-on approach to music for children between the ages five and seven. Children are encouraged to speak, sing, move and dance. Children in this class progress from imitation of musical material to improvisation and creation by singing songs, chanting rhymes, using body percussion (clap, stamp, and pat), and playing percussion instruments both unpitched and pitched. The children will learn to improvise and compose their own songs using folk songs and rhymes. Using Orff instruments (xylophones, glockenspiels, unpitched percussion etc.), they will learn to play in an orchestra-like environment. The children will also learn basic creative movement vocabulary. Students will showcase their learned musical skills at the end of each class for parents, and an on-stage performance at the end of each term. Their skills will be displayed through singing, chanting, creative movement, and instrumental playing.
