VPER WKSHP - Summer Percussion Institute

Course description

Would you like to elevate your percussion playing? Would you like to become a more influential member of your school band or orchestra? This course is designed for high school and junior high students wanting to improve or explore new skills and techniques.

Join some of Calgary’s best percussionists for a fun and educational experience at the MRU Summer Percussion Institute (SPIN.) This week-long exploratory program is designed for percussionists between the ages of 12 and 18* who have experience playing percussion instruments.

Last year's SPIN participants enjoyed a fun week of masterclasses, faculty performances, interactive workshops, clinics, and music games, culminating in a grand finale concert for friends and loved ones. We're back this year with the same great faculty – players from Mt Royal Conservatory, the University of Calgary, and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra – and looking forward to even more good times this summer.

Participants will have access to practice time on a variety of instruments found in the band room and more. Through the exploration of orchestral playing, percussion ensemble and traditions from around the globe, participants will have the opportunity to expand a variety of their skills in a team-oriented environment and develop their musicianship in a supportive and inspiring atmosphere. Join us for an unforgettable week of music-making, learning, and fun!
