Course description

This course is intended as a primer for musical composition in a classroom setting. Students will create original, notated musical works for their own instrument as well as those of others in their class with the potential for live performances or recordings at the end of each term. In addition to working on assignments and creative projects, participants will study works by composers in the Western classical tradition, seminal works representative of a diversity of styles in the 20th century, and works by living
composers. The course will be a combination of both defined and self-directed study and projects.
