Course description
The purpose of Understanding the World Today is to help you become aware of the major issues of the day and to have an understanding and appreciation of local and world events. This course aims to help you make connections between current events, politics, and world geography. Your understanding of world events will increase as your become informed citizens, able to discuss and demonstrate understanding of current events. You will have the opportunity to expand social and community contacts to think critically, and therefore having a greater voice in with your family, friends, work environment and in the larger community.Learner outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to
- be able find and analyze current event using technology/media.
- be able to describe and summarize these events.
- be able to locate the countries which dominate the media on a map.
- demonstrate an understanding of current world events through oral presentations, reports, posters, newspaper articles, or letters.
- have reciprocal conversations about current world events.
- increase self-awareness and confidence.
