Course description

Discover how to read a novel with deep understanding by studying how it is developed and explore different ways poetry can be writtern and why. Work individually and in groups presenting work in drama, reading and viewing activities.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to

  • understand how a novel is put together by learning about character, plot, setting, and climax. 
  • develop skills in reading 'without using a dictionary' by learning to predict a story as well as use punctuation and vocabulary clues from the reading. 
  • recognize how to connect a novel or a piece of poetry to self and the world.   
  • gain confidence and skills in presentations and speaking through drama and presentation activities. 
  • know how some poetry is put together and used like art as a form of self-expression.  
  • develop new vocabulary understanding.   
  • enhance viewing and listening skills while examining different novel themes.
