Course description

Learn about the pathophysiology that influences the neonate to diverge from a trajectory toward health. You will gain an understanding of the dysfunctions most pertinent to the neonate.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify the neonates who are greatest risk for water and electrolyte imbalances.
  • Explore risk factors, clinical manifestations and nursing management of neonatal infection and sepsis.
  • Describe the pathophysiologic insults that impact the neurologic system and the neonate's ability to communicate.
  • Identify pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic techniques to manage neonatal pain.
  • Recognize the impact of legal-ethical dilemmas upon the family and health care team.
