Course description

Explore the characteristics of human development with a focus on childhood to adolescence. You will examine the psychology of a developing child from varying perspectives and discover its implications in the learning environment of a classroom.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to

  • explain the basic terminology of educational psychology.
  • outline the basic concepts involved in learning.
  • identify the differences and relationship between theories of education and practical experience.
  • identify the ways students learn and how these techniques can be applied in teaching practice and classroom assistance.
  • categorize the factors of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual (ethical) development and how they play into the educative process.
  • identify the factors involved in the socialization process and an individual's "freedom."
  • express how human development factors relate to classroom management.

•   This is an online asynchronous course; it is not an independent study course. There are set due dates for graded and non-graded assessments and students are required to actively participate throughout the course via discussion and other activities.
