Course description

Explore neurodevelopmental disorders, disruptive, impulse-control, and conduct disorders within the context of childhood and adolescent mental health. You will review practices and other interventions to assist human service professionals in supporting children, adolescents and their families.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify and discuss neurodevelopmental disorders, impulsive-control and conduct disorders within the context of childhood and adolescent mental health  
  • Discuss best practices and other interventions which aim to assist the human service professional in supporting children, adolescents, and their families impacted by mental health conditions explored in this course  
  • Discuss contemporary data related to bullying, sexual minority youth, cultural competency and parental mental health issues  
  • Apply aspects of emotional intelligence, specifically self-awareness and logical versus feeling-based decision making while working with youth
