Course description

Examine the ecological model of human development and be introduced to strength-based practice upon which good practice with children is based. You will explore early and adolescent brain development with the factors that impact healthy development of the brain.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to

  • apply a framework for working with children, adolescents, and families based on the ecological models and strength-based practice, using a personal or professional perspective.  
  • communicate the concepts of basic anatomy of the brain and how the brain is built and pruned.  
  • apply the basic concepts of adolescent brain development to one's own personal or professional experience.  
  • explain how negative experiences in childhood impact brain development and healthy human development throughout the lifespan.
