Course description

Learn about fundraising from both a nonprofit and a private sector perspective. From the nonprofit perspective, discuss how to raise funds. From the private sector perspective, discuss how to create programs that provide funding. You will discover the role philanthropy plays in society and why it is considered to be such an important business strategy.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to 

  • describe the role philanthropy and fund development play in the management of a nonprofit organization.
  • discuss the nonprofit sector in Canada, including its breadth, diversity, and challenges.
  • recognize the role philanthropy plays and why it is a good business strategy.
  • describe the competencies required to work in fund development.
  • apply basic communication strategies and plans that support fund development.
  • create a basic fund development plan.

•   This is an online, asynchronous course; it is not an independent study course. There are set due dates for graded and non-graded assessments and students are required to actively participate throughout the course via discussion and other activities.
