Course description

Review the contributions of volunteers to charities and Canada's economy. Learn how to manage this valuable resource effectively by planning an appropriate volunteer program, motivating volunteers, providing meaningful volunteer job development and recruiting, selecting and training volunteers.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to
  • understand the need for and use of volunteers.
  • understand the dimensions of and issues affecting volunteerism today.
  • critically discuss issues affecting volunteerism.
  • understand and apply a volunteer management process.
  • critique volunteer management systems in existing volunteer agencies.

•   This is an online, asynchronous course; it is not an independent study course. There are set due dates for graded and non-graded assessments and students are required to actively participate throughout the course via discussion and other activities.
