Course description

Examine workplace health and safety practices and gain basic knowledge needed for a safer work experience.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
  • Understand the importance of health and safety in your workplace  
  • Describe the process of assessing and evaluating hazards and identifying appropriate controls 
  • Understand and explain the importance of investigating and reporting incidents  
  • Discuss employers'  and worker rights and responsibilities regarding safety  
  • Explain the key features of the Workers' Compensation Act and what it offers to workers and employers  
  • Describe key items in the Employment Standards Code and Regulations  
  • Describe Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)  
  • Understand the risks of bullying and recognize the signs of bullying in the workplace  
  • Understand what can affect your mental health and wellness at work
