Course description

Examine workplace health and safety practices and gain basic knowledge needed for a safer work experience.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to
  • understand the importance of health and safety in your workplace.  
  • describe the process of assessing and evaluating hazards and identifying appropriate controls. 
  • understand and explain the importance of investigating and reporting incidents.  
  • discuss employers'  and worker rights and responsibilities regarding safety.  
  • explain the key features of the Workers' Compensation Act and what it offers to workers and employers.  
  • describe key items in the Employment Standards Code and Regulations.  
  • describe Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).  
  • understand the risks of bullying and recognize the signs of bullying in the workplace.  
  • understand what can affect your mental health and wellness at work.
