Course description

Learn basic computer terminology, explore tablets, smartphones and explore how their apps, features and accessibility settings can be used in your daily life. Learn how to effectively use Microsoft Office programs and other keyboarding and typing software programs. Register and use a web-based email program such as Gmail or Outlook, and practice successfully and safely using internet search engines for specific information.

Course outline

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • understand basic computer, tablet and smartphone concepts and terms
  • identify the major hardware and software components of computers, tablets and smartphones
  • recognize (or demonstrate) how to successfully and safely use the Internet to search for specific information
  • develop (or improve) keyboarding speed and accuracy skills
  • explore a variety of programs and apps available on computers, tablets and smartphones based on students' learning goals and interests 

Prerequisites

Students who are new to TVP Part Time classes must speak with the program team before registering.
