Course description

This course will help you with your everyday reading, writing, listening, speaking and viewing skills.  This course will also help you understand numbers, use calculators for daily living needs, understand income and expenses and to be aware of community resources.  

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to 

  • compare the key characteristics of fiction and non fiction texts. 
  • analyze various materials to acquire information. 
  • express thoughts effectively in writing.
  • utilize various communication methods to deliver information in a way that is appropriate to the context.
  • explain numbers in a variety of ways using the place value system.
  • use numeration skills and strategies to solve equations.
  • use standard and non standard measurement to compare size and distance in everyday scenarios.
  • apply knowledge of money and money management to every day transactions.
  • utilize a calculator for everyday needs.
