Course description

Discover the skills required by technical writers to independently manage their documentation projects. Focus on documentation projects as they relate to the four stages of project management: initiating and planning, developing and executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing. Explore the relationship between the technical writer and the subject matter expert.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to

  • describe the requirements for successfully managing projects.
  • identify the elements of a documentation plan.
  • identify the elements of a content specification document.
  • describe how to evaluate quality metrics.
  • summarize team management techniques.
  • explain the importance of continual management of the documentation plan and project plan.
  • describe the relationship between the documentation plan and project plan.
  • explain the value of evaluating the successes and failures of a project.
