Course description

Gain skills and knowledge to better identify and understand people with concurrent disorders. You will examine the prevalence of concurrent disorders and learn about the most commonly assessed mental health and addiction related issues. Explore assessment, treatment and recovery issues for the individual who is dealing with recovery from concurrent disorders.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to

  • understand the prevalence of concurrent disorders.
  • identify the relationship between concurrent mental health and substance use problems. 
  • describe the impact of concurrent disorders on clients, families, health care practitioners and society. 
  • examine common attitudes, beliefs and values about concurrent disorders.
  • explain the benefits of providing an integrated treatment approach for concurrent disorder. 
  • outline the best practices for the treatment and support of clients with concurrent disorders.
