Course description

Take a leadership role on the issue of workplace health, safety and Workers' Compensation. The amount of accountability you have in this area depends on the size of your organization and management's assessment of inherent risks. Make sure that your organization's efforts are coordinated and effective.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to

  • understand the nature of workplace health, safety, and wellness.
  • be able to define application of legislation or regulations related to health, safety, and workers compensation.
  • understand the legal implications of health and safety.
  • understand due diligence and strict liability requirements.
  • be able to establish a joint responsibility system e.g., health and safety committees, investigations, and training to ensure employee safety.
  • be able to establish an effective program for hazard recognition and control.
  • understand the principles of workplace inspections.
  • be able to understand the principles of an effective accident/incident investigation.
  • understand the importance of the health and safety management system in relation to the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders.

•   This is an online, asynchronous course; it is not an independent study course. There are set due dates for graded and non-graded assessments and students are required to actively participate throughout the course via discussion and other activities.
