Course description

Once you have completed all the other courses in this certificate, create a portfolio of work samples that demonstrate your ability to carry out copyediting, proofreading and comprehensive editing with proficiency and ease. Bring to class a range of documents that you want to include in your portfolio.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Explain ethical and legal issues inherent in the work of editing: copyright, libel, bias, privacy
  • Demonstrate copy, style and structural edits on a range of non-fiction pieces
  • Analyze findings and resources based on an edit
  • Integrate, reference and apply the concepts, standards, techniques and best practices learned throughout the Professional Editing Certificate program
  • Compile a professional portfolio that highlights core competencies, skills and abilities
