Course description

Once you have completed all the other courses in this certificate, create a portfolio of work samples that demonstrate your ability to carry out copyediting, proofreading and comprehensive editing with proficiency and ease. Bring to class a range of documents that you want to include in your portfolio.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to

  • explain ethical and legal issues inherent in the work of editing: copyright, libel, bias, privacy.
  • demonstrate copy, style, and structural edits on a range of non-fiction pieces.
  • analyze findings and resources based on an edit.
  • integrate, reference, and apply the concepts, standards, techniques, and best practices learned throughout the Professional Editing Certificate program.
  • compile a professional portfolio that highlights core competencies, skills, and abilities.
