Course description

This course provides students with an opportunity to understand how data can be used to support product and business decisions. It covers data analytics frameworks, business scenarios and digital product metrics that influence the wider organization through sound decision making processes. This course enables students to determine why data is needed in product management, what data is the most important, what different types of data needs to be collected to make better decisions and how to use data to support decision-making and optimize prioritization.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to

  • apply product and data frameworks to existing problems.
  • understand various metrics associated with digital products.
  • design and create data feedback systems to inform product decisions.
  • formulate a compelling business case using qualitative and quantitative data to influence internal and external stakeholders.

Notes

Students must enrol in all four courses in the Product Management program at the same time.

Live virtual classes are held bi-weekly on Wednesdays from 4:30-7:30pm November 12 - December 10, 2025. 

•   Before your course begins, ensure your MyMRU account is activated. Step-by-step instructions for account activation can be found here. •   All online course work is through York University's online Moodle platform. Course information & Moodle instructions will be available on the MRU D2L Brightspace Learning Management System (LMS) one week prior to the start date of your course.  You must be logged in to your MRU Gmail account to access D2L Brightspace. Your instructor contact info & Moodle access will be made available on/or up to 3 days before the course start date.
