Course description

Gain an understanding of the expertise required to produce an event, including sound, lighting, special effects, and audiovisual systems. You will differentiate between an event timeline, a production schedule, and a production script. Ultimately, you will master common industry terminology to accurately assess technical requirements, allowing you to conduct meaningful negotiations, discussions, and event execution with technical vendors.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to 

  • develop production schedules to ensure seamless event execution.
  • develop a professional production script including all technical, program, and hospitality elements.
  • discuss how to communicate effectively with event stakeholders and suppliers to ensure flawless event execution.
  • discuss how creative, goal-driven elements--such as speakers and entertainment--can be integrated into event design.
  • evaluate emerging trends and technologies in event production.
  • describe how to lead and support the event production team to ensure coordinated delivery of the event.

  • This is an online asynchronous course; it is not an independent study course. There are set due dates for graded and non-graded assessments and students are required to actively participate throughout the course via discussion and other activities.
