Course description

Discover how effective planning can reduce or prevent loss and ensure your event is conducted in the safest possible manner. Learn about permits, licenses and insurance, legal issues and bylaws, contract negotiation and international considerations.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to
  • evaluate potential hazards and risks associated with events to recommend appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
  • develop contracts for event management that protect event organizers and clients, financially and legally.
  • assess the need for insurance, permits, and licenses required for events.
  • explain how alcohol service, crowds, volunteers, and security influence event safety and success.
  • design comprehensive risk and contingency management plans that identify potential hazards, evaluate risk, and outline proactive strategies to ensure event continuity and stakeholder safety.
