Course description

Investigate the practical aspects of innovation and how design tools and methods can be used to deploy a viable product or solution. You will put design processes and techniques into practice through applied projects by presenting your design concepts and evaluating a product for customer insights. You will also look at mechanical UX features, marketing context and design esthetics and make a final presentation to a real-life industry partner.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to

  • describe the primary concepts and theories underlying the creative process in the design of products and services. 
  • deliver practical, effective tools for applying design concepts and theories to the development of products and services. 
  • showcase the entirety of the design process (problem statement, user research, product testing, prototyping and pitching). 
  • Implement creativity and innovation in an effective team and individual context and build the confidence to present ideas and the desirable final product outcome. 
  • produce a portfolio-ready project, showcasing the understanding of all aspects and components of the User Experience design practice. 
  • effectively communicate through oral and written media, as demonstrated by coursework, online engagement, reports and presentations. 
  • build a personal and unique brand that showcases your strengths as a User Experience Designer. 

Notes

Students must enrol in all four courses in the User Experience (UX) Design program at the same time.
