Course description

Learn how to conduct, synthesize and share qualitative research with design and product teams. Discover the differences between quantitative and qualitative research and explore common research methods used in product and agency environments. Gain hands-on experience writing research plans, preparing discussion guides and conducting user interviews. Synthesize these findings and develop themes and a strategic direction based on the data.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to

  • identify and challenge assumptions project teams might make when setting out to build something new in order to ensure that you design and build solutions to real problems.
  • develop research materials and select the appropriate research method for your problem set to test assumptions, identify insights, and bring user-centered products to life.
  • conduct user interviews confidently and without bias.
  • synthesize qualitative findings into meaningful insights so that product teams are able to act on new information.
  • advocate for the role research plays in the product lifecycle, and explain the differences between usability testing and generative research.
