Course description

Discover the power and energy of Japanese ensemble drumming in this beginner-friendly course. Students will explore the rich history and modern evolution of taiko while learning essential dojo routines, stance, and drumming techniques. Hands-on practice will include an introduction to different types of taiko drums and playing styles—such as beta (flat), naname (slanted), and yoko-uchi (side) approaches on the chūdaiko. Traditional and contemporary repertoire may be introduced, giving students the chance to experience both the roots and innovation of this vibrant art form. No prior musical or drumming experience is required—just bring your energy and enthusiasm!
