XEDU 10005 - Literacy and Numeracy in the Classroom
Course description
Explore the development of language and its overall relationship to developing literacy and numeracy, both within the individual and the overall classroom setting. Discussion topics include culture and language, the relationship of language to thought, critical thinking, assessment techniques, teaching methods, language and numeracy learning, and intervention strategies designed for enhancing individual literacy and numeracy skills.Learner outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to
- differentiate between the many different methods and perspectives in the study of language, numeracy and literacy education.
- identify the basic principles present in the study of psycho-linguistics.
- evaluate the basic principles of curriculum construction with focus on those effective in facilitating literacy and numeracy in the classroom.
- formulate a basic education plan for the facilitation of literacy and numeracy in a classroom environment.
