Course description

Explore the major components of the Canadian justice system and the roles of legislative bodies, courts, law enforcement, corrections and aftercare services in the community. You will become familiar with the fascinating and sometimes confusing mixture of competing interests.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to

  • identify the major components of the Canadian justice system.
  • understand the various roles of legislative bodies, courts, law enforcement, corrections and aftercare services in the community.
  • integrate an understanding of the varying methodologies/programs employed by each of the components in carrying out their public mandates.
  • synthesize a beginning awareness of the issues inherent in the Canadian justice system.
