Course description

Explore the information technology system components and infrastructure requirements critical to the successful execution of all supply chain management functions. You will discover the strategic importance of globalization, digitization, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Software as a Service (SaaS), e-commerce, and e-procurement. Finally, you will examine how electronic data interchange (EDI), radio frequency identification (RFID), artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), cryptocurrency, blockchain, the internet of things (IoT), cloud computing, data analytics, predictive analysis, the omnichannel marketplace, and cybersecurity drive modern supply chain performance.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to 

  • use technology, e-procurement and e-commerce to enhance an organization's supply chain business processes. 
  • assess whether Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is a strategic fit for an organization by understanding where it fits in terms of strategic, tactical and operational activities or functions. 
  • determine whether Software as a Service (SaaS) or an ERP system upgrade is necessary to perform required function(s).
  • identify the most common software vendors providing supply chain IT systems and applications. 
  • discuss how the internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), cryptocurrency, blockchain, cloud computing, data analytics and predictive analysis support organizations in the digital global marketplace. 
  • assess the ability of an organization to source and purchase materials and/or services using the internet and e-procurement applications.  
  • identify Extensible Markup Language (XML) and electronic data interchange (EDI). 
  • explain what cybersecurity is, why it is important, what steps need to be taken to implement it and what needs to be done to ensure continued systems integrity.
