Course description

Examine the critical implications of warehousing, transportation and purchasing logistics services. Learn to identify factors that affect an enterprise's demand planning and production scheduling ability, explore demand-planning strategies and prepare simple demand forecasts using moving average and exponential smoothing techniques.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to

  • describe the benefits of planning and scheduling in supply chain management
  • understand the need to develop a plan that incorporates combined supply chain demand, capacity, utilization, material requirements and constraints. 
  • identify factors that affect demand planning and production scheduling including production capacity, storage capacity, demand planning horizon, demand variability, forecast accuracy and production-planning strategy.
  • prepare simple demand forecasts using moving average and exponential smoothing techniques.
  • understand demand planning strategies including chase demand, peak demand, level demand and mixed strategy.
