Course description

This course introduces the learner to many of the problem solving, analytical, and tactical elements of Supply Chain Management (SCM) and gives the learner the vocabulary and grasp of the basic concepts to be an immediate contributor in a supply chain role.  More strategic elements are also introduced including managing risk, competitive bidding, total cost of ownership, inventory management, and sustainability.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to

  • describe supply chain terminology, structures, value proposition and the economic and operational drivers leveraged by SCM. 
  • summarize the steps in the supply process including description of need, purchase orders and payment. 
  • discuss ways to arrive at purchasing decisions using competitive bidding and negotiation. 
  • explain the importance of effective inventory management and the transportation and logistics considerations when moving material. 
  • discuss trends and challenges including sustainability and legal considerations.
