Course description

Examine key factors relating to sleep disorders, substance use and eating disorders. You will explore Motivational Interviewing and the Transtheoretical Model of Change as common interventions when working with children and their families experiencing these conditions.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to

  • recognize and describe the signs and symptoms of sleeping and eating disorders.  
  • recognize and describe the signs and symptoms of substance use disorders with a focus on adolescents.  
  • explain how Motivational Interviewing and the Transtheoretical Model of Change are utilized as interventions for children and families experiencing mental health challenges.  
  • determine how intersecting identities (gender, cultural, sexual orientation) can be a factor in child and youth mental health.
