Course description

Discover the importance of boards understanding their work, with an emphasis on developing effective processes to keep the board focused while respecting the roles and responsibilities of the organization's staff. Examine these topics and investigate various board models and structures, roles of external stakeholders and board fiduciary responsibilities.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to

  • define board governance within the context of the nonprofit sector.
  • identify the key components of effective nonprofit board governance, including types of governance models, and roles, responsibilities, and accountabilities of board members.
  • understand the importance of building and maintaining successful board and management relations.
