Course description

Gain an understanding of the role of the editor and the editing process, particularly in creating professional, accurate and usable technical documentation. You will be introduced to and examine various edit types through practical exercises.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to

  • describe what is involved in the various levels of editing. 
  • identify typical editorial roles used to review publications. 
  • explain the importance of diplomacy in the workplace. 
  • identify the mechanics of writing and define proper usage, including punctuation and modifiers. 
  • define and use parallel construction and subject-verb agreement. 
  • identify the correct use of tables and figures. 
  • explain the purpose of structural editing.
