Course description

Examine the codes and methods used in stack sampling, with particular emphasis on the Alberta Stack Sampling Code and the Alberta CEMS Code. Learn the theory and calculations behind the methods commonly used for stack sampling programs, including demonstrations of the different sampling methods and techniques. Discuss instrumentation testing and the various codes for this in Alberta. There is no hands-on experience with analyzers in this course.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • summarize Alberta Stack Sampling Code, including theories behind the different methods and the calculations used to derive results that industry receives.
  • demonstrate an understanding of the important aspects of stack sampling.
  • explain the Alberta CEMs Code, code requirements, CEMs test methods, quality assurance plans and audits.
  • complete the various calculations used to determine moisture content, molecular weight, velocity and flow rates, concentration, relative accuracy and bias.
