Course description

Examine the management functions in non-profit organizations and identify different strategies for managing them. Learn to recognize the importance of major stakeholders and how to maintain relationships with them and discover the role of transaction and exchange when managing stakeholders.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Develop a further understanding of the vocabulary of strategic management in the nonprofit sector
  • Reflect on the work done by major thinkers (e.g. Drucker and Porter) in the field
  • Explain how functional areas such as marketing need to be planned out by nonprofit managers
  • Recognize the major stakeholders of a nonprofit organization
  • Adopt a point of view on the role of transaction and exchange when managing stakeholder relationships
