Course description

Gain insight into marketing and public relations as they relate to the goals and objectives of non-profit organizations. Learn how to develop a marketing and public relations plan for a non-profit organization.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Recognize the role that marketing plays in the non-profit sector, the special features of non-profit marketing and the marketing publics that apply to non-profit organizations
  • Implement key marketing concepts such as branding and promotion.   
  • Understand how non-profit organizations can utilize marketing and public relations to support fundraising activities.
  • Differentiate between the different types of marketing that are unique to non-profit organizations and recognize their objectives and applications.
  • Examine the marketing and communications strategies and study their relationship to the strategic planning process.
  • Develop the essential elements in marketing plans and communications plans and identify the relationship between these plans and an organization’s strategic plan.
  • Create effective communication and public relations strategies.
  • Identify current trends in marketing and communications, especially those related to non-profit organizations.

•   This is an online, asynchronous course; it is not an independent study course. There are set due dates for graded and non-graded assessments and students are required to actively participate throughout the course via discussion and other activities.
