Course description

Explore programs that are designed to prevent or reduce the risk of developing substance abuse problems. You will examine models and critical success factors of prevention programming, health promotion and harm reduction.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Explore the history of prevention and lessons learned
  • Define prevention and examine indicated, targeted and universal efforts
  • Identify environments where prevention occurs
  • Identify risk and protective factors
  • Explore resiliency and how it effects prevention
