Course description

Gain advanced, practical classroom experience with special emphasis on the application of theoretical education policies, methods and philosophies. Expand your knowledge and skills through active participation in the classroom duties of an education assistant.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • analyze the relationship between practice and theory in education
  • demonstrate the application of policies, regulations, and procedures within the classroom environment 
  • recognize elements of the "Rights and Responsibilities of an Education Assistant" in the classroom
  • employ methods of differentiation in instruction within a diverse classroom
  • explore the social and educational benefits of a diverse and inclusive classroom
  • enhance self-presentation and relationships to establish oneself as an Education Assistant

Section Notes

•  This practicum consists of 90 practical hours in a school setting and participation in an online D2L learning community. Students will be placed in a school setting by Mount Royal Tuesdays & Thursdays, October 8 – November 28, 2024 (Note: no classes November 12 for students in CBE placements).  

•    Before your course begins, ensure your MyMRU account is activated. Step-by-step instructions for account activation can be found here. Once you have activated your account and have your MyMRU login information, you can log into your MRU Google account using your @mtroyal.ca email address and set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). Help with your Google account can be found here, and help setting up MFA can be found here.

•   Course content will be available on the D2L Brightspace Learning Management System (LMS) three days prior to the course start date. You must be logged in to your MRU Gmail account to access D2L Brightspace. Your instructor will be available on the course start date.
