Course description

Acquire tools and strategies to lead as an effective supervisor. Explore fundamental concepts and develop skills for creating a positive work environment, productive teams and motivated employees.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Describe characteristics of an effective manager
  • Articulate the key responsibilities of managers at all organizational levels
  • Understand the difference between management and leadership
  • Describe the Five Functions of Management
  • Identify their predominant management style
  • Understand the key differences between three management styles
  • Identify the impact and appropriate use of each of the three management styles
  • Articulate the importance of three foundational abilities for effective managers and understand the benefits of developing them
  • Articulate the benefits of delegating effectively
  • Overcome their "reasons" for not delegating to others
  • Apply strategies and practices to more effectively: assign work, assess progress and provide feedback
