Course description

Discover the art and science of event management. You will gain an overview of the event industry, its associations and designations. Discuss various types of events, the five-phase approach to event planning and core competencies of event planners.

Learner outcomes

 Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to
  • define the concept of “special events” and the history of events.
  • describe and categorize individual events within the Classification of Events framework.
  • outline an understanding of the event industry in Canada and internationally.
  • identify the five phases of event management.
  • recognize and determine the core competencies of an event planner.
  • identify the professional associations and professional designations within the event industry.
