Course description

Explore how to appropriately interact in situations when emotion and exaggerated or unpredictable behaviours are presented. You will learn techniques and practices for building resilience and emotional competence by focusing on your own self-care principles.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Distinguish between types and sources of power in conflict situations 
  • Examine aspects of human neurology to create awareness of perception, emotion and the impact on communication and conflict 
  • Apply techniques for de-escalating high emotion, recognizing crisis, and creating safety 
  • Present techniques for managing resistance, low trust, uncertainty, avoidance, and impasse 
  • Outline approaches to close the process on unresolved issues
