Course description

Look at fundraising from both a non-profit and a private sector perspective. From the non-profit perspective, discuss how to raise funds. On the corporate side, discuss how to create programs that provide funding.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
  • Understand the role philanthropy and fund development play in the management of a non-profit organization.
  • Enhance their knowledge and understanding of the non-profit sector in Canada including its breadth, diversity, challenges, constituents, and contributions to individuals, communities, and beyond;
  • Recognize the role philanthropy plays in our society with particular emphasis on corporate philanthropy and why it is considered to be a good business strategy;
  • Describe what competencies are required to work in fund development;
  • Manage basic communication strategies and plans that support fund development;
  • Create and manage a fundamental fund development plan, including making decisions on fundraising methods that may be applied to accomplishing the goals of the plan, resources needed to accomplish the fund development goals, communications that support fund development, and stewardship and donor recognition programs.
