Reiki is a light-touch, holistic form of alternative health practice that invokes “Universal Life Force energy” to address a range of issues.
Reiki (pronounced ray-kee) is a non-invasive, complementary therapy which uses light touch and intention to channel living, healing and nurturing energy to the recipient. By learning the methods of Usui Reiki, you can adopt an alternative health practice that promotes relaxation and stress reduction. Reiki is simplistic in nature, and when practiced for self-care students often report a profound transformation within themselves and in how they live their lives.
Some people seek Reiki training primarily to help themselves, their families and friends while others use it to start or complement a holistic healing profession. Completing the principles and attunements of the three courses prepares you to practice as a Reiki Master/Teacher.

Frequently asked questions
Who is this program intended for?
This program is intended for anyone who wants to learn about Reiki for personal or professional reasons. Upon completing the certificate, graduates will be considered a Usui Reiki Master / Teacher.
What type of career options are available if I complete this certificate?
A Reiki master has career options in private practice, teaching or as a complementary therapist in vaious settings like hospitals, wellness centres, and massage therapy clinics. Many Reiki masters start their own business offering individual sessions, while others incorporate it into existing careers like nursing, massage therapy, or acupuncture. They can also work in retreat settings, conduct long-distance sessions, or find other positions in the wellness industry.
Note: additional education and training may be required for some positions.
Do I have to take the courses in order?
Yes, students must complete the courses in order:
- First Degree Reiki,
- Second Degree Reiki, and finally
- Usui Reiki Master / Teacher.
How will I be graded in each course?
Attending the course and receiving the Reiki attunments are requirements to pass to the next course level.
How many hours am I expected to work on each course?
It is recommended that students practice each level of Reiki after their course and then take the next level course when they feel ready. Most students take the three courses sequentially in the same semester, however, you may take a longer break between courses if needed.
Will I receive a Certificate for each level?
Yes, you will receive a certificate for each level of Reiki completed as long as you have received the Reiki attunement. These certificates are signed by the Reiki Master / Teacher and are official. You must keep these certificates as proof of your Reiki level completed. Once you have completed all three courses, you may apply for the Mount Royal University Reiki Certificate of Completion.
I have previously taken First Degree Reiki elsewhere, can I start with Second Degree Reiki at MRU?
Unfortunately, since the Reiki industry is unregulated, we are unable to recognize training received elsewhere. You must complete the MRU courses to receive the course certificates.
How many courses can I take at a time?
You can take as many courses as your schedule will allow. There are no restrictions on the number of courses you can take at one time. You may be eligible for a 5% discount if you register for all three courses at the same time. No retroactive discounts will be available.
Will I get a job once I'm done the certificate?
While having a professional certificate will certainly put you in a favourable position when looking for employment, there are many factors to consider for each individual that it would be impossible to pre-determine your employment success. Our graduate statistics have shown that a significant percentage of past students have experienced a measurable increase in salary, responsibility, and/or activity after completing our programs.
Will Mount Royal help me locate career opportunities?
No, Mount Royal does not have a system in place to assist students with career opportunities upon completion of our certificate. However, there are periodic job postings advertised on our website.
