What type of career options are available if I complete this certificate?

The certificate may open doors to careers as a florist in floral shops, as a wedding and event designer, a floral assistant, a floral expert in wholesale floral operations, or for those wanting to open their own shop.

Note: additional education and training may be required for some positions.

Do I have to take the courses in order?

No, each course is designed to stand alone, but we suggest starting with XFLD 10001 Floral Design, Level 1.

How will I be graded in each course?

Each course is based on attendance. Students must be in class and complete at least 5 out of the 6 projects in each course to be successful in that course. Should a student miss more than one project, they may contact our programming team to arrange a make-up project.

What supplies do I need?

Students are asked to bring a bucket at least 10" tall to hold flowers while working in class, a pair of scissors, and a set of sharp gardening sheers. An apron is optional. In winter, students may wish to bring a garbage bag to protect their arrangement from the weather.

What will I learn in these courses?

You will learn safe floral knife handling skills, as well as the proper care and handling of flowers. You will learn and make six different types of arrangements in each level (course). Arrangement styles and types of flowers will get more difficult / specialized as the levels progress.

Do I need to complete the certificate before taking the individual / seasonal floral courses?

No, anyone may regsiter for and take the individual / seasonal floral courses.

How many courses can I take at a time?

You can take as many courses as your schedule will allow. There are no restrictions on the number of courses you can take at one time. You may be eligible for a 5% discount if you register for all three courses at the same time. No retroactive discounts will be available.

Will I get a job once I'm done the certificate?

While having a professional certificate will certainly put you in a favourable position when looking for employment, there are many factors to consider for each individual that it would be impossible to pre-determine your employment success. Our graduate statistics have shown that a significant percentage of past students have experienced a measurable increase in salary, responsibility, and/or activity after completing our programs.

Will Mount Royal help me locate career opportunities?

No, Mount Royal does not have a system in place to assist students with career opportunities upon completion of our certificate. However, there are periodic job postings advertised on our website.
