Course description

Music for Life: Tiny Tunes for Growing Minds” is an introductory group music class for young children (ages 2–5) with a range of neurodevelopmental and learning differences, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Down Syndrome, global developmental delays, cerebral palsy, and other physical disabilities.

The class is modeled on the Suzuki Early Childhood Education (SECE) philosophy that “Every Child Can Learn” and incorporates principles of music- centered music therapy. The program focuses on early childhood learning through music while incorporating therapeutic strategies that promote sensory regulation, confidence, and participation.

Through play-based and developmentally appropriate musical choices including improvisation, students will explore rhythm, melody, and movement while building foundational skills that support cognitive, social and emotional development. Participants will be able to engage at their own level while benefiting from group interaction and shared musical experiences in a safe environment using an adapted learning approach. Parents will receive support and strategies from the teacher and learn alongside the child to create a positive, nurturing and supporting learning environment at home.

Additional Information:

  • Participants must have a queried or confirmed neurological diagnosis.
  • No previous musical experience is necessary.
  • All participants must be accompanied by an adult to every class.
  • Participants must be able to participate effectively in lessons and maintain a safe environment for themselves and others.
