XPDM 10001 - Introduction to Product Management
Course description
The objective of this course is to provide students with an opportunity to understand the fundamentals of Product Management. This course covers the key concepts, methodologies and tools that help product managers successfully build and ship products that solve real customer problems.
This course will enable a student to answer the following questions:
- What is product management, how does it vary across companies and areas of focus?
- How do we know we are building the right product and features?
- What things need to be considered to build a product in the right way, from requirements to launch?
Learner outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to
- evaluate the different types of product management, and the different career paths product managers often take.
- define and explain the key concepts needed to build a product strategy, and how this relates to the company objectives and guides the overall product development.
- compare the different quantitative and qualitative inputs used to identify problems and opportunities, and the different methods often used to validate solutions.
- describe how you would approach building a solution, by prioritizing the right things, working effectively with cross functional partners and using different methodologies to work efficiently and reduce risk.
- explain the important aspects of launching a successful product, and how to think about a product post launch.
Notes
Students must enrol in all four courses in the Product Management program at the same time.
