Course description

This course is designed to give students the opportunity to learn and practice basic steps to follow in case of an emergency. We focus on building student confidence in a variety of theory and practical sessions. The focus throughout the course always comes back to prevention of injuries, keeping first aiders safe, risk assessment, and safety in everyday life and the workplace. The course meets the requirements for provincial worker safety and insurance boards and includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to

  • analyze a situation to determine if it is an  emergency.
  • demonstrate how to respond to an emergency.
  • prepare a personal risk management plan.
  • experience and confidently think about and discuss strategies to prevent injuries at home, the workplace and an assortment of everyday activities.
  • comprehend and successfully demonstrate all required skills, including critical steps.

Prerequisites

Students who are new to TVP Part Time classes must speak with the program team before registering.
