Course description

This course is designed to give students the opportunity to learn and practice basic steps to follow in case of an emergency. We focus on building student confidence in a variety of theory and practical sessions. The focus throughout the course always comes back to prevention of injuries, keeping first aiders safe, risk assessment and safety in everyday life and the workplace. The course meets legislation requirements for provincial/territorial worker safety and insurance boards and includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to

  • demonstrate the knowledge and skills to be able to recognize a problem or emergency be able to activate the emergency medical system and care for a casualty based on their level of training.
  • experience and confidently think about and discuss strategies to prevent injuries at home, the workplace and an assortment of everyday activities.
  • comprehend and successfully demonstrate all required skills, including critical steps.

Prerequisites

Students who are new to TVP Part Time classes must speak with the program team before registering.
