Course description

Gain hands-on and in-depth experience with equipment used for Alberta Stack Sampling Code Methods 1-5 as well as 7A, 8 Constant and Methods 10 and 18. Practice using pitot tubes for calculating flow rates and mass emissions and work through the various calculations to determine concentration, moisture content, velocity, volumetric flow and mass emissions. Throughout the course, discuss instrumentation testing and the various codes for this in Alberta.

Learner outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to

  • perform the correct procedures for extracting a representative sample from a stack or duct under normal operating conditions.
  • apply standard testing procedures and document each step of the test by maintaining complete and accurate records as required by enforcement agencies.
  • complete the various calculations used to determine moisture content, molecular weight, velocity and flow rates, concentration, relative accuracy and bias.
